Curator: Elvira Dyangani Ose
Place: Different locations of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Casa África

According to the architect and Professor, Ignasi de Solá-Morales, a Terrain Vague is the shape of the absent, a vast land. A series of emptiness settle beyond the post-modern city rhythms… Abandon areas, old architectures, degraded buildings, places out of the city logic, are in this project the physical reflect of societies profound change.

Terrain Vague Project aims to challenge invited artists, to change their geographic parameters to capture other urban intensities, public spheres and communities taking place within the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and search how issues on cultural identity modifies sense of Place. Project reflects on the urban voids, by mapping the city, its inhabitants and their day-to-day living. In Terrain Vague, artists Dineo Bopape, Tiago Borges and Uche-James Iroha - coming from different background and territories- explore places and communities to build up a map, including multiples narratives, as inventories of a fragmented city.

The encounter Terrain Vague: Urban Spaces, Art and Social Interventions, featuring international experts will take place next November in Casa África to arise a theoretical frame to the program.
