In Al-Ana/Huna, or Now/Here, Younès Rahmoun reconstructs a space for work, meditation and expression inspired by the ‘ghorfa’, a little room below the staircase at the artist’s house in Tétouan, sharing this space with the public.
The artist has created one of such spaces in the Rif mountains in Morocco and will create another in the Netherlands, in each case adapted to the local environment and using different materials. Formally, these reproductions highlight the symmetry present in Arab arts and science. Spiritually, the artist invites the public into a ‘recreated’ intimate space.
