Dineo Seshee Bopape

artist

Born in Polokwane, South Africa, in 1981.

She obtained a Cum Laude BA degree, in Fine Arts, at Durban Institute of Technology, where also received the National Diploma in Fine Arts, being her majors: Painting and Sculpture. She is member of professional bodies as NSA and Durban Art Gallery, NSA Gallery exhibitions selection committee, and Young artists’ society, all of then based in South Africa. After a two-year working period at De Ateliers in Amsterdam, she lives between Amsterdam, Polokwane and Durban. Her work aims to engage the poetics of language, the psychosexual, and the power politics embedded in the fabric of the every-day living. Personal/privatised dramas are teased out sometimes close to oblivion to arrive at a ’place’ of not one specific narrative, but a discordant orchestral mess/harmony of small stories told in light, sound and colour.

She’s been artists-in-residence at Thami Mnyele Foundation in 2008. Her work has been displayed in the following solo shows: “Love Strung”, KZNSA gallery, Durban; “It’s A Celebration Bitches!!!” open studio, Thami Mnyele Studio, Amsterdam, “Non In Mind (Fictions Unending) Dream Weaver And Other Stories”, Marthouse Gallery, all of then in 2008, and “Keep It To Yourself” KZNSA Gallery, Durban, South Africa, in 2005. She has participated in group exhibition within South Africa and abroad, among them: “Disguise” Michael Stevenson Gallery, Cape Town; “In Transition Russia 2008” Moscow; “Cape 07”, Cape town; “Off-spring” at De Ateliers, Amsterdam; “To a New common place” Mart house Gallery, Amsterdam, “In the Making: Material and Process in South African Art”, Michael Stevenson Gallery, Cape Town; or ”Orientations and Illusions”, prog:ME, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Dineo Sesee Bopape is an artist participating in Terrain Vague.
